March 24, 2010This is my first post so hopefully this works. Im thinking about getting a K&N cold air intake for my 2006 silverado. I was wondering what the difference was between the 57 and 77 series and which one was better. Also should i get the air filter wrap and if so what is the purpose of it?
March 24, 2010If it was me id get a cai thats enclosed. The open one`s like K&N let warm air in instead of cold. I had a volant on my old truck and it was nice. K&N are good intakes though. Im not sure but i think the only difference in the series is one has an aluminum tube and one has a plastic. Basically for looks. I would think the aluminum one would collect more heat from the motor tho. The wrap is just to keep dust off the filter. if you get it just make sure you dont over oil it
March 24, 2010welcome to the forum. the 77 K&N has the shiny aluminum finish versus the 57 K&N that`s all black which i think is made of plastic. someone correct me if i`m wrong.
March 24, 2010You are Correct JiffY.
I have the 77 series and Love it. Just put a K&N wrap on the filter b/c I am on Dirt/Country Roads Daily. The Wrap is water proof also. so Waters just beads up and rolls off the Wrap.
There really is no difference between the 57 & 77 series other than Shine!!
March 24, 2010Thanks! i have been looking at K&N but not sure what i am getting....what is the best brand of CAI to get for your money?
March 24, 2010Hey John where`d you get the wrap from? i cant find one online and im scared to buy a different rand in case it doesnt fit.
March 24, 2010I got it off Amazon for $14.00. I know I couldnt believe the price either so I jumped on it. I also bought a new filter b/c mine was getting BAD after 6 years...JohnB
