April 26, 2009Ok im pretty sure a 5.3 liter v8 can go faster than 90 mph. How do I take the governor off? Do i need to have a power programmer to program my computer *or* is there an actual part I can take off somewhere? Thanks!

April 26, 2009simplest way i know of would be a tune, hand held *or* custom is up to you but that is the way to do it. seems low that it only does 90. i have a mostly stock 2500hd with a 6.0 and it only has an intake and exhaust and will do over 100
April 26, 2009I was on the highway and this guy in a jacked up ford cut me off and sped away, and I was like not in this lifetime mother @#%$^&%! So i pounced on the gas but right when I got to 90 mph the governor definitely kicked in. I have an 04 silverado 1500 5.3 and my moms old honda accord could go 130 with its governor still on.
April 26, 2009what year 5.3 is it? my 05 5.3 tops out at 98. not quite 100 but just under it. all i''ve got is a air force one air intake with an upsized cone and exhuast. other then that its stock
April 26, 200904, but i havent floored it since I put my exhaust on yesterday. I guess I need a super chip programmer? I dont want to get burned by those blue badged basturds anymore.
April 26, 2009My 98 would cut out @ 95mph. My 01 cut out at just under 100 also ^ before I programmed it with a predator. Do you have bigger tires? your speedo might be A few mph off.
April 26, 2009No my truck is all stock and I just put a flowmaster 40 series on yesterday. Im not sure why its so low.
April 26, 2009Eh well whether its 90 *or* 99 its still not at its full capability. A programmer *or* a tune will definitely wake up that sleeping giant.
April 26, 2009i have an 03 and it stops speeding up at about 97/98 but thats only at 3500 rpm and i know it could carry on some more. look into a programmer
April 26, 2009Ive seen 110 in my 01 with a superchips programmer, Flowmaster exhaust, Air Raid intake and throttle body spacer. May go faster, but I have large tires and wheels on it, so it is aerodynamically locked at that speed until I get it re geared. It wont fully shift into overdrive, and hunts back and forth. Needs 3:73s at a minumum. One thing you need to consider is that your tires may not be able to handle that speed. Mine are rated up to 130mph I believe. Be careful
May 18, 2009Ok well last night my friend and I were on the highway at 3am and we floored it and she got to 97ish so now im not so worried. the only thing not stock is the flowmaster exhaust.
