December 29, 2010Had mine for 4yrs with no issues. My truck runs Great.
Disconnect battery for 15min
Remove cover from PCM
Unscrew bolts holding wire harness
You may have to do a "Crank Relearn" but thats a easy process..JohnB
Go for it
December 29, 2010Easy and well worth it. No issues s
December 31, 2010ok thanks he asked me about torque management and how much i want takin out. i do tow on occasion up to 8000lbs and plow snow.Im not sure what to tell him

January 3, 2011Is there any other things i should ask him to do with the custom tune and what is crank relearn and how hard is that to do.
January 3, 2011Ask Charlie to send you the info. When I installed mine I forgot about it, I called him and told him my problem and he laughed!(We are Buddies)
He emailed me the instructions for the Crank Relearn and after the process it started right up. Sorry I looked and could not find them....JohnB
January 3, 2011If you can do without your truck for a few days, send him your PCM, have him program that one and send it back to you. Then no need for the crank re-learn. That`s what I did.
Yes, take most or all of the torque management out. I think he reduced mine 75%. Don`t go for the 93 hot tune if you`ll be towing. I got the 91 tune, have had it for three years and love it. I pull a 6,000-lb travel trailer all over the country.
My buddy just got a 2004 Burb - identically equipped to mine - 5.3, 4X4, 4.10 gears. If you floor his, it feels like a dog and just seems like it doesn`t pull hard. Floor mine, and it jumps off the line. Very satisfied.
PS - don`t forget to have him raise the speed governor. 100 MPH just isn`t enough.
January 6, 2011So i ordered my custom tune from wheatley last nite kinda excited to get it see what it can do
January 7, 2011i did his tune with 80% tm removed regular and 90% removed in tow/haul mode. i have the 4.8 so there isnt much to brag about but ive raced buddies of mine, they each have the 5.4 f-150, and i smoked them both! installing the tune is a no brainer. but one thing that took me a minute to figure out was how to get the rubber seals, the seals that are on the engine computer, back on. the trick to it is to put the seals inside the wire connecter then screw the harness back into the engine.
be sure and tell him to remove the speed limiter...
good luck let me know if you need any help!
