December 17, 2011Hey guys. I have a question thats been eating at me for some time now. I have a 2006 Silvy 1500 4x4 crewcab. I was wondering if there is a different set-up between the 4x4 package and the z71 package,if so can someone please tell me. Some guys that I work with tell me that a 4wd is a 4wd no matter how you look at a decal on the bed of the truck. My truck is equipped with the 4.8 liter and is bone stock, was also wondering what gears I might have as well. Thanks CTW.

December 17, 2011Z71® Off-Road Suspension Package
Whether youre maneuvering around a construction site or heading for some mud-slinging, off-road recreation, the legendary Z71® Off-Road Package lets your Silverado® take it in stride. It includes 46mm high-pressure gas-charged shocks, a 36mm front stabilizer bar and off-road jounce bumpers to absorb large suspension inputs. When youre really into the deep stuff, the included Skid Plate Package is there to protect the truck undercarriage from rocks and debris. This package also includes an off-road air cleaner, front recovery hooks and Z71 decals on the rear quarter panels to let everyone know your pickup is up to the challenge.
On Regular Cab LT models, requires the available Trailering Package. On all LT models, not available with Vortec® 4.8L V8 SFI engine and requires available on-/off-road tires or all-terrain tires and 17" or 18" aluminum wheels.
LTZ models require on-/off-road tires and 18" aluminum wheels.
In order to choose this feature, you also need to add: Vortec 5.3L Variable Valve Timing V8 SFI FlexFuel engine6-speed automatic transmission -Cooling, external engine oil cooler -Air cleaner, high-capacityTrailering PackageHeavy-Duty Cooling Package -Cooling, auxiliary external transmission oil cooler, heavy-duty air-to-oilHeavy-duty automatic locking rear differentialSkid Plate Package

December 18, 2011Z71 is a suspension upgrade. There is no change to the powertrain. The 4WD systems are identical comparing a Z71 truck to a non-Z71 truck.
Regarding gears - look in your glovebox for the sticker with all the 3-digit codes.
GT4 - 3.73
GT5 - 4.10
December 19, 2011Ok I just looked at the codes in my glovebox and I have GT4 and G80,is G80 a different differential code? I hope running 315s with 3:73s wont hurt much,I plan on getting 285s around tax season. Thanks guys for all the input.
December 20, 2011Just dont gun it with the 315`s and youll be ok,
December 20, 2011The G80 is the Eaton locker. It`s not a limited-slip, but an automatic locker. I think it`s a great option to have on a truck.
January 12, 2012Those 315`s on a 3.73 really suck the power away. Even 285`s on a 3.73 is not the best. I had them before. I custom built my engine and had the tranny done and was psuhing a lot more power but still the 3.73 is decent but robs your low end power with 285`s. I put some 285`s on my current truck with 4.10 and they are fine but still thinking about switching over to 4.56 because I tow heavy and long distance.
If it ain`t broke don`t fix it.
